Year 2012 pronounced the year of geodetic profession in Serbia

Government of the Republic of Serbia had promulgated Decision pronouncing year 2012 the year of geodetic profession in its session held on February 23rd, 2012.

This is 175th anniversary of geodetic profession development in Serbian state. Inception of geodetic profession in Serbia is dated to 1837, when Prince Milos had initiated the issue of organized work on land survey and classification in Princedom of Serbia on the assembly on Spasovdan, held in June 1837, in Kragujevac.

History of geodetic profession in Serbia holds plentitude of examples of significant achievements of geodetic profession, geodetic science, together with significant contribution of geodetic education to the needs of Serbian state.

Having in mind the fact that the geodetic profession had had a vast significance for development of the state of Serbia, especially for real estate cadastre establishing and maintenance, as basic and unique register of real estate and property rights, followed by utilities cadastre establishing and maintenance and other works in the field of state survey and cadastre, the Republic Geodetic Authority had decided to organize celebration of anniversary “175 years of geodetic profession in Serbia”, with participation of education institutions, state institutions, companies working in geodetic profession, geodetic unions and esteemed individuals contributing to development of geodetic profession and geodetic activities in Serbia.

Celebration of anniversary “175 years of geodetic profession in Serbia” will be done continuously throughout 2012, by organizing workshops covering certain topics in the field of geodetic profession, holding exhibit dedicated to development of geodesy as science and profession in the Gallery of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, issuing Monograph “175 years of geodetic profession in Serbia”, and a set of other promotional and organizational activities.

Having in mind that 175 years of geodetic activities development in modern Serbia are great and valuable anniversary, and the fact that geodetic profession had had a vast importance for the state of Serbia during this long period, with the importance yet to increase in future development of Serbia, especially towards accession to the European Union, the Government of the Republic of Serbia had made the Decision pronouncing year 2012 the year of geodetic profession in its session held on February 23rd, 2012.

This Government’s Decision had been accepted by geodetic and cadastral professional public in Serbia with utmost admiration and respect, knowing that it is recognition of previous work, and understanding that it is additional incentive, challenge, obligation and responsibility for future work.
